opticut is a unique icalendar management program which saves calendar information in single files. It's designed for people who want icalendar-based calendars on their computers. You can use it to edit, view, convert, delete and export icalendar files in a way that suits your needs. opticut can import icalendar files from Windows mail, read them, edit them, save changes back into icalendar files and into Microsoft Outlook calendars. It can import iCal files from Apple iCal or into Microsoft Outlook calendars. Export options are available for printing the calendar on paper. opticut is freely available for non-commercial use. Version 6 contains minor updates to work correctly with the latest version of the ICAL protocol, which has been updated by Sun to ICAL v3.0 in August 2007. Since the opticut program is more than ten years old, updates like this are necessary to keep it up-to-date. opticut is widely used in various academic institutions and governmental agencies for input of icalendar files into Microsoft Outlook calendars. Most ICAL and icalendar related software is only available as shareware. The German government has approved use of opticut Pro as a public sector tool, available from its website with most documentation included, but without source code. The most notable feature of this software is the complete integration with the ICAL protocol, which allows it to create and edit icalendar files with relative ease, e.g. by the keywords "day", "week" etc., based on the ICAL protocol. It also features the individual export of complete calendars for various file formats (and has support for PDF-based calendar exports which are no longer available in other software). opticut was originally written by Peter von Maltzahn, who has since moved to his new website. The development of opticut is currently continued by Martin Rüster, who continues to develop it under the name opticut 5 professional. opticut has no advertisements which can be annoying like popup windows or pop-up ads in freeware programs.
